Outreach and Training

Outreach is targeted at three audiences, namely crop scientists, the At community, and the wider biomedical and physical science communities. The Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock centre (NASC) will promote the Integrative Systems Biology (ISB) ethos and provide services for the former communities.

General inter-disciplinary education involves an ISB lecture series in which speakers describe their combined modelling and laboratory work, an annual conference, and a series of short courses (e.g. Image analysis for biologists, Biological structures and processes for engineers, Multi-scale modelling techniques, Mathematical representation of biochemical processes) to broaden understanding by researchers in industrial and public sectors.

The ISB ethos should spread to our international collaborators by virtue of their involvement in CPIB and to other groups through the University's Multidisciplinary Centre for Integrative Biology ( MyCIB) which collaborates with several universities and companies. MyCIB also manages the Nottingham M.Sc. in Integrative Biology and the Nottingham MRes in post genomic technologies. Nottingham also has expertise in the Centre for Integrated Systems Biology and Medicine (whose current focus is on multi-scale data generation and analysis of primarily human physiological and disease states), and the Centre for Mathematical Medicine and Biology.

CPIB will also host an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Training Centre (IDTC) that will deliver ISB training to registered doctoral students and deliver Graduate School courses open to doctoral students studying Life and Physical Sciences related areas at Nottingham.

The University's new conference facility on its Sutton Bonington campus will also be the venue for international meetings.

CPIB - A Centre for Integrative Systems Biology supported by BBSRC and EPSRC.
